Enhanced Safety Measures for Football Games and Public Events
PUBLIC NOTICE
Dear River Valley Students, Families, Staff, and Community Members:
The safety and security of our students, staff, families, athletes, and community members remains a top priority of the River Valley School District.
Beginning Friday, September 4, 2026, with the home varsity football game, the District will implement enhanced safety and security measures for football games and other large public events. These measures are intended to provide an additional level of security while allowing our students, families, and community members to continue enjoying River Valley events.
All spectators will be required to pass through a security screening process before entering the stadium. Weapons detection equipment may be utilized at public entrances. Spectators are encouraged to arrive a few minutes earlier than usual to allow additional time for the screening process.
Backpacks and bookbags will not be permitted for general spectators. Exceptions will be made for individuals participating in or directly supporting the athletic event, including student-athletes, marching band members, cheerleaders, coaches, referees, game officials, and other approved event personnel. All permitted bags remain subject to inspection. Clear bags are encouraged when appropriate to help expedite the entry process.
To maintain a secure environment during football games, there will be no re-entry after halftime. Spectators who leave the stadium after halftime will not be permitted to return for the remainder of the event.
Middle school students must enter the contest with an adult who remains at the event. They may sit with their parent or accompanying adult in general admission seating or in the designated student section as long as the adult remains in attendance.
For the safety of everyone attending events, weapons and other items that may pose a safety or security concern are prohibited inside the stadium. Prohibited items include weapons of any kind, including pocket knives; vaping devices and e-cigarettes; tobacco products; alcohol; illegal drugs or controlled substances; outside food or beverages; athletic balls; bicycles; skateboards; and pets or animals, with the exception of certified service animals.
Loitering in the parking lot or around the stadium is not permitted during or following the sporting events. Spectators are expected to follow all directions provided by District staff, event personnel, security personnel, and law enforcement.
Spectators are strongly encouraged to leave unnecessary items at home. Bringing fewer personal belongings will help expedite the security screening process and reduce wait times at the entrances. Unauthorized items may need to be returned to a vehicle before entry or disposed of at the entrance.
We understand that these enhanced safety measures may require some changes to the normal routine. These precautions are being implemented out of an abundance of caution and are intended to provide an additional layer of safety and security for everyone attending River Valley athletic events.
We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we work together to provide a safe and welcoming environment for our students, athletes, families, staff, and community.
Thank you for supporting River Valley School District.
Sincerely,
River Valley School District
Safe, Secure, Panther Strong
