River Valley School District Inducted into the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools
River Valley School District was named to the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools, a national network that connects and supports the most forward-thinking leaders in education to advance innovative learning and leadership practices.
The district was selected from a competitive pool of applicants from across the country. In addition to the River Valley School District, the League accepted seven other school districts into the Spring 2024 Cohort.
The River Valley School District was selected based on its vision for innovation, commitment to equity, and desire to ensure that all students have opportunities to succeed. The district’s transformative approach to career-related learning, technology and innovative practices, and real-world experiential learning has been positively impacting students, all of which contributed to its appointment to the League.
“Forward-thinking education is an integral part of our school culture—innovative practices to improve learning and technology enable our staff to think outside the box and take risks. Our students are inspired daily to collaborate and learn from each other so that we can ensure high-quality learning experiences and opportunities for all students to succeed,” said River Valley Superintendent Mr. Philip Martell.
Launched in 2011 at the White House with the U.S. Department of Education, Digital Promise shapes the future of learning and fosters equitable education systems by integrating solutions from research, practice, and technology.
Currently, only 17 other school districts in Pennsylvania are members of the Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools, with 150 school districts nationwide. River Valley School District is the first school system in Indiana and Westmoreland Counties to join the League of Innovative Schools.
Digital Promise named the 2024 Spring Cohort members at the League of Innovative Schools Convening in New York, NY, hosted by Mineola Public Schools. During this week's convening, Superintendent Philip Martell led a session titled “Progressive Career Pathways That Ignite Students' Strengths, Interests, and Values.” He offered insights into RVSD’s trailblazing strategies for aligning students’ strengths, interests, and values with their future selves and career pathways.
