Saltsburg Campus Air Quality/Mold Testing Update

Saltsburg Campus Air Quality/Mold Testing Update

The Saltsburg campus will reopen on Monday, September 14, 2026.

Laboratory results provided to the district on September 10, 2026, did not identify evidence of a widespread mold problem at the Saltsburg campus. Indoor samples showed very low or non-detectable fungal concentrations and were substantially below exterior baseline levels.
The fungal material detected indoors included types commonly found outdoors. This is not unexpected in a school setting, where outdoor material can naturally be carried inside as students and staff enter and exit the building.
The report did identify one isolated, extremely low-level detection of mold in the LGI Room at the STEAM Academy (where board meetings are held). As a precaution, access to that room will be restricted. Remediation will occur, and the room will not be utilized until follow-up testing reveals it is safe.
At the Saltsburg Elementary School, testing results indicate elevated moisture in several classrooms. The district will continue to use dehumidifiers and clean the areas as recommended. The district will be evaluating exterior drainage and grading to improve runoff.
While the results do not indicate a widespread mold problem, we will continue to address the moisture concerns, complete the recommended follow-up, and take appropriate preventative measures to maintain a healthy learning environment for our students and staff.
