School starts on Wednesday, August 20. Listed below is all the important information that families need to know. We will continue to update this page as we draw closer to the first day of school!
Open House Nights
Open House is a quick, informal opportunity for you and your child to meet the teachers, see the classrooms, and get familiar with important areas like the cafeteria, media center, and school offices. These events are focused on helping students feel ready and comfortable on day one!

School Calendar
Early Dismissals
The River Valley School District will dismiss students early each Friday throughout the 2025-2026 school year. The dismissal times are:
- 12:05 pm STEAM Academy
- 12:10 pm Middle and High School
- 12:50 pm Blairsville Elementary
- 12:50 pm Saltsburg Elementary
- 1:10 pm Pre-K
Bell Schedules
School-day hours are:
- Early Childhood Learning Academy (Pre-K): 8:55 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Elementary Schools (K-5th grade): 8:30 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.
- Secondary Schools (6th-12th grade): 7:15 a.m. to 2:33 p.m.
Bus Routes
Letters with student bus information will be sent in early August.
If a change is necessary, it is imperative that you contact your school office prior to Friday, August 15, 2025.
No transportation changes will be approved between August 18 - 22, 2025 . If a change is requested after the 15th, it will be processed when routing reopens on August 25.
Please call your school office with transportation requests and changes. If you need immediate or emergency assistance, contact Smith Bus Company at 724-459-6930.
School Meals
All River Valley students receive free breakfast and lunch each school day.

Schedules and Class Assignments
6-12th Grade: Students and parents can access PowerSchool on August 1 to view their 2025-2026 schedules.
K-5th Grade: Families will receive a letter with homeroom assignments.

Saltsburg Elementary School and Early Childhood Learning Academy
Discovery Den After School Program
Open to K–5 students at BES and SES, the program provides homework support, STEAM activities, physical education, and social-emotional learning. Snacks and transportation are provided.
Chromebook Information
Optional device insurance is available for purchase through the River Valley School District.
During Back to School Night at both BES and RVMHS, Mrs. Bouy will be available to accept Chromebook insurance payments for the 2025–2026 school year, as well as any outstanding repair or damage fees from last year.
